The Hollies first major session was so successful that it resulted in an 'A' side (Ain't That) Just like Me and two 'B' sides. These recordings from April 1963 are with drummer Don Rathbone. By October he had been replaced by Bobby Elliott.

4) Stay (Maurice Williams)

Bobby Elliot's first session on October 11th 1963 produced this single 'A' side and the rare 'Poison Ivy' which originally only got an Australian release on the 'The Hollies' LP in 1978.
The line-up joining Bobby on this recording, of Allan Clarke (vocals), Graham Nash (guitar & vocals), Tony Hicks (guitar & vocals) and Eric Haydock (bass) would stay the same until May 1966.

Their first attempt at this song, in a style Bobby Elliott has described as 'unplugged Bossa Nova'. They returned to the studio a week later to record what would become the top 10 single version. This track first appeared on 'At Abbey Road 1963-1966'.

Very much a 60s standard, this was covered by The Rolling Stones, The Animals and Cliff Bennett amongst others. Mixed by Peter Mew at Abbey Road in March 2003.

These three demo's were recorded at Bell Studios, New York in April 1965 while the band were performing a three week residency at the Paramount Theatre. No tape exists and these tracks were transferred from an acetate owned by Bobby Elliott. So Lonely was recorded again in July and used on the 'B' side of 'Look Through Any Window'. The song 'I Can't Get Nowhere With You' (issued in 1993) and said to be from these sessions was recorded at Roulette Studios, 1631 Broadway, New York on 22nd September 1965 with 'Now That You're Gone' and 'Stay Away'.

A Gerry Goffin & Carole King song which first appeared on the ' I'm Alive' EP in 1965 and then remained unavailable until a 1986 collection called 'Not The Hits Again'.

Produced by Burt Bacharach
A Burt Bacharach and Hal David song from the film of the same name. Released as a single on United Artists; it was lost with the release of 'Bus Stop' a fortnight later. It featured the band with stand-in bass player Jack Bruce (Eric Haydock having left the band), Burt Bacharach on piano and Peter Sellers, the film's star, on additional vocals. The film also starred Victor Mature and Britt Ekland.
